What is Genius Hour?
Genius Hour originated from Google's 20%Time project where Google gave employees 20% of the work week to investigate things they were interested in. Genius Hour is the school version of that and is also known in schools as 20% Time or Passion Projects. The ultimate goal, is to give students the power to research topics they are interested in, go through the research and development phases, and create a public product of their choosing that they can put out into the world. |
Genius Hour Research ProjectIf at first you don't succeed...
In the words of my friend Mrs. Kate Arthur, "Remember that this is a process. You are not expected to 'get it right the first time.' In fact, you might surprise yourself at just how much more you learn on the days you get it totally wrong." With Genius Hour, failure is expected and encouraged! We are looking at the growth process and the opportunity to fail forward! |
Genius Hour Research ResourcesGenius Hour is a research process. You'll be gathering sources, learning how to cite them according to MLA, developing a works cited plan, and outlining your information to develop your formal final published piece. All the while, you'll be reflecting on the process through your choice of publishing.

Genius Hour Publishing PlanHow are you going to inform people about your project? Who is your audience?
Now that you've completed your research project, it's time to come up with a plan to publish your work. In this flyer, you will find various options for explaining your topic to your audience. You need to explore different avenues of publication and determine which one is right for you. |
